Hi, I'm Michael. I'm 16 year old entrepreneur and I make a living on the internet.
In 2011 at the age of 13 I decided to set up my own podcast network. I started listening to podcasts in 2009 and I loved the medium. I watched Leo Laporte's This Week In Tech podcast every week. It inspired me to start my own podcast, Talks About Tech Weekly in July of 2011.
I have always been surrounded by technology. There has always been a computer in the house or some spare electronics lying around. My Dad is a computer hardware and software engineer and ever since I was a toddler he has been exposing me to the wonders of technology.
I bought my first laptop of my own when I was 7. This was all of those years ago before the time of iPads and iPhones when a laptop was about the best way to go on the internet. I bought a €300 dell Inspiron 1000 which I still have to this day. Although it wasn't very good I didn't know any different and I used it for years before it finally decided to give up on me.
At age 10 I started getting interested in robotics. I made a three wheeled robot out of an old box trolley. I used a system that allowed the computer to send commands to the robot over RF. It was pretty cool! I entered it in the North Mayo Science Competition in 2008 and 2009 and won an award there both years. It was a great first experience at robotics and electronics.
In 2010 my Dad, my brother and I set up a robotics club called the Moycullen Robotics Club and we entered the First Lego League competition for the first time. The FLL is a robotics competition for 9-16 year olds. You must create an autonomous robot using Lego Mindstorms to complete a circuit in under two and a half minutes.
In 2011 I set up my own podcasting network, Talks About Tech. I started listening to podcasts in 2009 and loved the idea of having your very own show where you could talk about anything you want. Of course I wanted to talk about technology and so began the Talks About Tech Weekly podcast which now has over 100 episodes!
In 2012 we won the national First Lego League competition with our team of 9 from the Moycullen Robotics Club and proceeded to the Open European Championships in Manheim, Germany where we also won a top prize.
I have learned so much from these experiences. It was from the Talks About Tech podcast network that I learned about web design. I had to make my own website so I watched a few YouTube videos, read a few articles and thought I was a web design expert. I wasn't. But I did manage to set up my website although it wasn't very good at all. From there I learned the right way to set up a website. Then I started setting up websites for a few family members and friends. I thought that maybe my skills could be useful and that's when I decided to set up Corrib Digital.
My goal with Corrib Digital isn't as just an advertisement for my web design services but also as a website that provides hosting for your web needs as well as valuable content to help you get your website built.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the article.
